Sensory Motor Integration via Occupational Therapy and Physical Gymnastics Training

Dr. Boz Mofid is a Physical Education specialist  who has over 30 years of experience  working with children of different ages and functional levels in gymnastics.   His doctoral thesis explored using a sensory motor integration approach in gymnastics training, learning the significance of its benefits.   Dr. Mofid has also worked with individuals of different ages and levels with learning disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder; physical, neurological and cognitive disabilities since 2003.

Dr. Mofid is committed to facilitating development of purposeful and efficient movement patterns, focusing on the quality of execution and body mechanics involved.  People with sensory motor integration deficits need to have extra motivation and reason to perform the physical activities that can be difficult for them.  Dr. Mofid provides a safe environment where his clients are able to develop more normalized movement patterns for daily life in the most simple and efficient manner.  His ability to technically analyze his clients movement patterns enables him to faciitate more effective motor performance using progressive, systematic methods.  He uses a sensory motor integration approach to help his clients feel more typical movement patterns, teaching them the skills they need to execute motor performance effeciently in daily life situations.  This facilitates the client's ability to gain confidence in him or herself, increasing comfort levels and motivation to participate in daily life, ultimately easing the ability to become a more active member within one's environment.

After initial assessment, Dr. Mofid develops a training program using a sensory motor integration approach to facilitate more efficient movement patterns, incorporating strengthening, coordination, balance and visual motor activities.  Training may be provided individually or in small groups (2-3 clients).  Clients may be ambulatory toddlers to adults with sensory processing difficulties.  Progress is reviewed on an ongoing basis with adjustments made to the training program as needed to further facilitate the development of quality motor performance.
